Atlanta CityPass – offers its holders nine days to see: the Georgia Aquarium; the World of Coca-Cola; inside the CNN Center Tour; the High Museum of Art; Atlanta Botanical Garden; Atlanta History Center; Fernbank Museum of Natural History and Zoo Atlanta. All these attractions for a discounted price of $69.00.
Zoo Atlanta – see one of the few giant panda exhibits in the U.S.A. and the one year old panda cub – this is one of the few places in the world where a new panda is produced almost every year.
The Aquarium – the World’s Largest aquarium
World of Coca-Cola – Coca-Cola headquarters is not far away. Their 125th anniversary in 2010.
CNN Center – the World/International Headquarters for this worldwide news service. CNN – Cable News Network was another first for Atlanta – the first time news was sent from one location, via cable, all over the country, and by satellite to the rest of the world.) Go into the studio where they are broadcasting CNN, Headline News, Spanish language broadcasts - see where news broadcasts are developed and coordinated for Asia, North America, Europe, Africa, etc.
The Carter Center and Presidential Library – if the tour is on Friday, and, President Carter is in town, we’ll try to pull some strings to get the former President to greet us personally.
Atlanta Botanical Garden
High Museum of Art
Cyclorama (a diorama of the Battle of Atlanta)
Oakland Cemetery – goes back to the Civil War - (Margaret Mitchell’s burial place)
Margaret Mitchell House (where she (ostensibly) wrote Gone With the Wind)
The Varsity Drive-in Restaurant (near Georgia Tech – a historic site and gastronomical delight – gastronomical is not to be taken lightly)
Stone Mountain (a good distance away)
Civil War battle fields about 20 miles from our hotel
Martin Luther King, Jr. Center
Shopping in areas nearby or Lenox Square, Phipps Plaza & Atlantic Station (high end shopping opportunities)
Micro-Breweries – several top award breweries in town.
Theaters/Shows during time of the Reunion (The Fox Theater)
Braves/Hawks game – if they are in town. (At present there may be no NBA season)
Weekend MARTA passes - the local transit system.
